Welcome To Michigan The Big House shirt
While I’m often visiting the regional, state and national parks in the greater SF area, I rarely do other touristy things. Just like when I lived there, I only go the GG Bridge, Alcatraz or Fishermen’s Wharf when taking friends from out of town or on a field trip with the kids. About 4 years ago. We were on a cruise that had an overnight port call there. We had a pretty good time — walked from the pier down to fisherman’s wharf and had lunch at a restaurant there, took a bus tour that went over the golden gate and back, through the park, Haight-Ashbury, Chinatown, north beach, etc., then in the evening a different bus tour that went over to Treasure Island. Quite memorable. Would do it again, but maybe spend some time in the museums.
Donald, you requested I answer your broad, open-ended question even though I live in San Francisco, and have lived in San Francisco, and the Bay Area since 1965. Some of my favorite San Francisco experiences… Christmas Eve – The annual Gay Men’s Chorus at the Castro Theater under the direction of Jacob Stensberg, the new Artistic Director since April 2022. 3 sold-out shows at this 1400 seat, 100 year old movie palace. The Gay Men’s Chorus now has 250+ singers. One of the best performances since their first performance at the 1978 City Hall memorial for Mayor George Moscone, and Supervisor Harvey Milk, both assassinated earlier in the day. The Castro felt like the movies, entertainments, and special events I remember before San Francisco lost 20,000 gay men to HIV/AIDS, and to a deliberate refusal of federal (CDC, and the president) health organizations to respond for 12 years, I lost 35 friends in that 12 years. An emotional, and joyous occasion unique to San Francisco.
